A few years ago, I had never heard of Rosewood hotels, or Carlyle & Co (an exclusive private members club) or Casey Abrams. Last night I had the deep pleasure - and honour - of meeting all three!
Last week while drifting around the Okinawa islands, I started to think about what we should do in our two days in Hong Kong. I contacted local friends James and Jonathan for suggestions on where we could see some jazz. Carlyle of course, but you can’t just come in, you will need to find a member to book for you and escort you on the night. Hmmm. Lisa knew just one member in her friendship circle, and darling Akiko was available on the night - and amenable to taking us. Woo hoo.
To our immense pleasure it was Casey who would be performing for us, and last night he was joined by a pianist and drummer, both exceptional musicians - locals, as Casey prefers to play with when performing international residencies like this. However, both had to relinquish their instruments as the night progressed, as Casey, while mostly a bassist/singer for this gig, plays those as well (among many other instruments).
There were three 45-minute sets, and after the first, it was hard to resist annoying them with conversation during their break but somehow I managed.
In the second set, Casey generously sat down at our table and serenaded me. Me!!! There is video to prove it, but not for public viewing. We even danced, before he sat on my lap. It was hilarious fun; I cannot believe my life this week!
Carlyle & Co, located high up in the Rosewood, gave us a great night to support the exceptional show: the food and beverage was perfect, even the toilets were next level. And the maple and cajun popcorn so delicious they had to keep bringing us more. To top it off, they sent us home with goodie bags, not just the popcorn, but a memento photo of our group during Casey’s serenade, autographed by Casey!
Back to Casey, if you don’t already know him, look him up people:

Casey will perform for a select few at Club Young Street on his next visit to Melbourne.
PS it’s our last day in Hong Kong tomorrow, but there will be no more blog, as nothing could top the high I am on from last night. See you in a few weeks, maybe. Thank you and good night.

Going to the Rosewood would have been enough for me to die happy, but getting Casey Abrams to serenade you is unbeatable
