Day 15, part 2: hello Lisa!

Amazing arrival to Hong Kong, no queues. It’s Madame Commodore Catwoman’s first time here; she’s like an excitable child especially when she saw the art installation in HK airport.

A very slow afternoon at Lisa’s was a necessary respite from the humidity (and the past 10 days) and Lisa’s maid Sheila welcomed us with cake and tea, while we plonked ourselves in front of the amazing view from level 31 and made like sloths.

For those of you who don’t know her, (Good) Lisa is my friend from Burgmann College when we studied at ANU in the 80s. We have loads in common, now, but in many ways we are total opposites. Good Lisa is petite, dignified, elegant and doesn’t swear (I am working on that by the way). If you met her at my latest party, you might know her as “Chanel Lisa”, as opposed to Naughty Lisa and Lisa Arnold.

The mal de terre (land sickness) has kicked in, more so in the shower, but hopefully it will end soon. After one extended cruise I ended up having it for two weeks which is unusual. Nowadays I travel with stemetil.

Lisa finally arrived home from work, we started our reunion but before long it’s off for cocktails at the Peridot bar in the stunning Henderson building. Great suggestion, thank you Biddy. Then down to Akira Back for dinner; we were very excited to get in for our first night in HK.

The food was next level, sake too. We continued our very excellent reunion all the while three young locals at the next table were slaughtered and kept falling off their chairs. Akira Back is a high-class establishment and the service staff kept asking us if we were okay with it. But it was hilarious to witness and we loved it! George Bernard Shaw had a saying, and I paraphrase: “youth is wasted on the young”, but not with these three. They eventually left but staggered back an hour later to collect the handbag they had left behind. Mort de rire (LOL).

At our table, there was no subject left untouched. The three of us have a special bond forged on the ice in Greenland.

Home by midnight after a 20-hour day. Lisa has to speak at a conference tomorrow so we called it a night.
